Paraskevidekatriaphobia

It’s Friday the 13th!! It’s the third time that this has happened in 2009 (Also occurred in February, March, and again in November)

I’m not superstitious, but I always think it is exciting when the 13th of the month happens to fall on a Friday. Did you know that the fear of Friday the 13th is called Paraskevidekatriaphobia?!

A huge chunk of my senior design project is due on Monday, so I met with some other kids from class early this morning on campus to get some work done. I never have class on Fridays, so I was surprised at how easy it was to find parking, and how empty the campus looks!

Before I left, I made a hot breakfast.

Breakfast included included:

  • One packet Kashi Hot cereal
  • 1 banana, whipped into cereal
  • 1/4 cup almond granola
  • blueberries

Granola and Oatmeal is where it’s at!!

Also, a cup of coffee to get my day started (It was early!)

Time to attack that project!!

Here are some Friday the 13th Facts for you to impress your friends with:

  • More than 80 percent of high-rises lack a 13th floor.
  • Many airports skip the 13th gate.
  • Airplanes have no 13th aisle.
  • Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room number 13.
  • Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery, and it is the least likely to be selected number in the UK lottery.
  • On streets in Florence, Italy, the house between number 12 and 14 is addressed as 12 and a half.
  • Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue
  • In France, socialites known as the quatorziens (fourteeners) once made themselves available as 14th guests to keep a dinner party from an unlucky fate.
  • Many triskaidekaphobes, as those who fear the unlucky integer are known, point to the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13. The ill-fated Apollo 13 launched at 13:13 CST on 4/11/70. The sum of the date’s digits is 13. The explosion that crippled the spacecraft occurred on April 13th.
  • If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil’s luck . Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo all have 13 letters in their names.

Link to random superstitions. Crazy stuff!?!

Are you superstitious? I am not, but I find it interesting (mainly because numbers are involved)!!
