Yucky Weather and Half Traditions

If tomorrow morning’s weather is anything like today’s…

…it’s going to be windy, cold, and rainy! Boo.

I’m new to the whole “running in the rain”. I usually avoid it at all costs. I’m used to running in super hot sun, in shorts and a tank top.

I have no idea if the weather is going to help or hinder my running performance. I guess I will find out!

I have all my gear laid out for the morning: (just realized i need pants and socks… )

Plus a change of clothes in case I get soaking wet. I expect to be drenched.

I’m stealing some of Caitlin’s Running in the rain tips!

I have my iPod in a ziploc

Good News! I found out that the Garmin 305 is waterproof!? Click here for proof.

My “carb loading” was not ideal but I did get a decent dinner in. It’s pretty much a tradition that I eat pizza the night before half marathons. I’m sticking to my tradition.

I had two slices of veggie pizza

…with dipping sauce 😀

A slightly random tradition is my lucky race earrings. I forgot to wear them at my last half and did really bad (for me) and finished in 1:58:45!!!

When I did wear them (a few months earlier)… I finished in 1:50:26!!

Before I found out about this crappy weather my plan was to go for sub 1:50 finish time. That equals a 8:23 min/mile pace which is REALLY fast sounding (for me). I’m not really getting my hopes up, so I’m just going to have as much fun as possible.

I think that a good race doesn’t have to mean your best time. The best runner is the one having the most fun. 😀

How do you deal with running in conditions you aren’t used to? Do you find that it helps or hurts your abilities? I think it could go either way!

Wish me luck!  I’m off to bed.  Alarm is set for 4:30 am.

I’ll be back in the morning with a recap! 😀

Ugh just do it when it rains. It’s not the most fun ever…. Usually kinda miserable, but maybe racing in it won’t be as bad as training in it?

  20. “I think that a good race doesn’t have to mean your best time. The best runner is the one having the most fun.”

You are so right! Sometimes as runners we lose track of what’s really important. Love this quote and saving it!

  21. Good luck! It’s snowing here in DC which is beautiful but I hate running in it which means… lazy morning! 😀
