Welcoming Change

Fasten your seatbelts, it’s about to get crazy!

Well, at least it will be for me. August is going to be a CRAZY month for me! Here’s a basic rundown:

  • August 2: Dad’s 50th Birthday
  • August 4: Mom’s 50th Birthday
  • August 6: Mom comes into Orlando to visit
  • August 7: Graduation from UCF!
  • August 8-9: Beach with Family
  • August 10-12: Charlotte, NC to visit Caitlin
  • August 12-16: Healthy Living Summit in Chicago
  • August 20: My apartment lease ends/move out
  • August 20-22: BFF Debbie’s Bachelorette weekend

Whew. It’s going to be a BLAST!

You may be wondering where I am moving. My lease ends in 18 days, and while I have 4 part-time jobs, two of them are ending mid-September. With little money saved and without a secure job or any real reason to stay in Orlando (other than a small handful of friends) the best thing for me to do at this point is to move in with my family.

I am going to be temporarily staying with my co-worker (approximately a month) while I finish out my contract at my job and then I will be moving to North Carolina with my mom and sister. I plan on keeping my freelance engineering gig and increase the amount that I have been blogging.

Honestly, I am very excited about my decision. I have been working and studying non-stop from the moment I arrived at college 5 years ago. It will be nice to spend some time with my family, not pay rent for a few months, and focus on looking for a job! I am going to be looking for jobs in a bunch of different areas of the country, and probably travelling some.

I’m also excited for a new running environment, and seasons!

Even if it takes a few months, I think that I will be happiest in the long run by taking some time to really figure out where I need to be. I have never lived anywhere other than Florida, and I am welcoming the change with open arms!

  5. So exciting! Good for you Megan, You’ll do great things I know you will.

Keep in touch when you move to NC, I Live in the raleigh area, we could meet up or run a race together or something!

  6. I am so happy things are looking up and you are no longer stressing. I also agree that NC is a great place to figure out where your next step should be. When I graduated with my Master’s I moved in with a friend back in my home state and 3 months later ended up moving back to NC (where I got my degree) and spent a year there just making plans for the next move. I had no idea mine would be to Oklahoma but eventually I hope to get back to NC again.
Good luck wherever you end up and I hope, as I’m sure many do, that you are happy and continue to keep blogging as we all enjoy reading about your adventures!

  7. Good luck! I always loved visiting my brother in NC, so I’m sure it’s a great place to live!

  13. Yay! Such a fun month ahead of you and change IS wonderful. I’ve been in the same boat as you; however, instead of moving in with my family, I’m moving away from them. It’s the right decision for now and I’m excited… just know too that now you have to visit NYC 🙂

  14. Us Floridians are really taking over NC!! Love it 🙂 NC is a great state: mountains and ocean. What more can a girl need?

  15. Congrats, that’s so exciting! I moved home after I graduated, and although I’ve found a job, I’m still there- it’s nice to save money, have homecooked meals, and spend time with the family after years of college 🙂 NC is so beautiful too- you’re gonna love it!

  16. What a crazy month for you! I think going back home and focusing on looking for a job sounds like a great plan – it’ll be so nice to be with your family, too.

  17. That is really exciting! Congrats!

  18. I think you’re going to love your decision! I also decided to move home after I graduated and it was honestly the best thing I could’ve done. Not paying rent is FABULOUS 🙂 and it’s good to do some soul-searching after the craziness of college.

  19. I think it’s a great decision. You’ll appreciate the time spent with your family. And it’ll give you a new experience!

  20. Good luck! Can’t wait to read about the transition and new adventures 🙂

  21. Love this post–very uplifting and optimistic! Good luck on your job search!

  22. What an excitng month ahead!! It sounds like a good decision to move back home while you figure things out.

  23. ooooooh how very very exciting! Looks like you are going to have an AWESOME August 🙂

  24. It’s been 2 1/2 months since I graduated and I’ve done nothing….and it’s felt AMAZING. Just to remember what it’s like to be a person again. Read books for fun and just figure things out at my own pace. Have a great August and move home!

  25. i moved home after i graduated college (a LONG time ago). it was the best thing i could have done. i found a job i loved that made sense career wise, i didn’t feel too rushed to do so, financially, and i took time to make some decisions about grad school that i may have jumped into otherwise. you are a smart girl and are headed for great things!

  26. That sounds like a great decision! Some people are so weird about moving back in w/ their parents after college, but it’s a great way to save money, escape some of the job pressure, and spend time w/ family! I think you’re going to have a great time 🙂

  27. Good for you!!!

  28. this is sooo exciting!!! everything happens for a reason and moving to a new state is going to be the best fresh start for you!!!

  29. CONGRATULATIONS! You should be so proud of yourself. You have come a long way. I firmly believe things happen for a reason and for a great reason. Better things will happen because of all that came before. I hope you have a chance to relax for a few weeks before starting on your new journey.
