I love  running, working out, discovering new music, cooking, nutrition, traveling, surfing, and living a healthy life. Its a journey, and I’m always trying to find a balance!

I am passionate about life, and live with no regrets.

Running Career

I have been running for three years and I absolutely love it! It has changed my life in so many ways. Half way through my sophomore year of college (late in 2006), I realized that I was really unhappy with the way I felt in my own skin. I had a little bit of weight to lose, but more importantly, I was VERY unhealthy. I knew I was the only one who could change the way I felt!

One day in December 2006, I laced up my crappy shoes and headed out the door. I seriously couldn’t even make it 1.0 mile. I started out running really slow and not going very far… as in… I would go down the street, start huffing and puffing, and then turn around and walk home. I felt like it would never get easier, but sure enough, it did!

I completed my first 5k in May 2007 after only running for a few months. My mom ran it with me, and we completed it just under half an hour.

I moved back to Orlando for school, and met (my now BFF) Debbie. She had been running since high school, and encouraged me to sign up for my first half marathon!

In December 2007, I completed what I thought was impossible. I also ran WAY under my time goal and finished in 1:54:23.

OUC2007

I have now completed 19 races of all different distances from 5k to marathon.

In January 2010, I completed my first full marathon, the  Disney Marathon. It didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but I still finished!

Dealing with Injury

I injured my knee in the Disney marathon, and took two weeks to finally admit that to myself. I ended up taking several weeks off of running completely, and finally saw a doctor. Basically I had an overuse injury and three months later, here I am, starting over.

I am currently training to get back to even being able to run 5k’s without pain. It can be quite discouraging only being able to run 2-3 miles when you know you have ran 26.2!! I’m trying to keep a positive attitude as I rediscover my love of running.

In the meantime, I fell in love with cycling! I completed a half metric century (31 miles) in April 2010.

Join me as I transition from college to career, and discover even more about what life has to offer. I am excited for what the future holds!

Don’t forget… Dream BIG!

  9. Hi!

Crazy! I found your blog through Caitlin’s blog (which I found through another blog….lol). I am an engineering student as well (4th year, but I’ve got a year to go because of a work experience thing).
It is awesome to find a blog by someone is has a busy life! I am not a runner yet, but I want to be. Unfortunately, I’m in the middle of fighting an illness that gives me bad joint and tendon pain. (I’ve had shin splints for almost 3 years straight WITHOUT running). Hopefully once that gets a bit better (I’ve got my fingers crossed for September) I can start. But I bike a lot!
And congrats on the graduating! You must be so excited! (Do you get an iron ring, or is that just Canada?)

  10. Great story! You are very experienced with races, I’ll get there someday!

  21. Hi! I found your blog because you ran with my sister, Nicole, this past weekend! I live just a couple hours away from you and am recoving from an injury too.
