The weather in Central Florida today is GORGEOUS! (Think high sixties, not a cloud in the sky!)

It was the perfect morning for a bike ride with good friends.

I had a large breakfast to fill me up before the ride.

I had a blueberry bagel with peanut butter on one side, and blackberry preserves on the other side.

After breakfast, Caitlin rode over to my apartment…

…we then picked up my friend from class, Mark…

We all started out together, but we ended up splitting up about half way through. Caitlin wanted to go for a long ride and wanted to take it slow. Mark just got a new bike and was being super speedy.

Mark and I ended up riding 15.0 miles around the airport loop. It took just over an hour. Crazy Caitlin did another loop.

 

Towards the end, I’m sure I was getting annoying because I wanted to stop and take pictures of the planes. I hear and see them all day long, why I need a picture of them? It’s for the blog!

I am always impressed by airplanes.

 

While being an obnoxious tourist, I noticed my reflection in Mark’s sunglasses. “Hold on that would be a super sweet picture!”…

We finished the ride up and chatted the whole way back.

Oh yeah! I got new sports sunglasses… random.

 

Once I got back to my apartment, I made a delicious and refreshing green smoothie while I made lunch.

Lunch was a quick stir fried tofu, rice, egg, and pea combo. YUM!

Avoiding My Flu Bug

Hello!

I’m sorry I have been MIA all day!

Jason has been feeling worse today, so we made a trip to the doctor, and after patiently waiting, got him a Rx for some flu medication. His temperature was skyrocketing (got up to 104*F !!!) and we knew it couldn’t wait any longer!

I have a ridiculous amount of greens in this apartment, and with this bug going around, I figured what better thing to start my day off with than a Green Monster!

I seriously PACKED the greens in there.

My green monster contained:

  • banana
  • ice
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 1/2 TBL Peanut butter
  • 2 cups of Kale
  • 2 cups of spinach

HOLY GREEEN!!!

I drank that at about 7:00 am, and my class gets out at 10:30am so I packed a bar to hold me over.

When I got home around 11:00, Jason told me that he was feeling worse and needed to go to the Doctor’s very soon. I made a quick grilled cheese sandwich with mushrooms and more spinach, plus grilled asparagus and headed out the door.

I packed a couple snacks to take with me to the Doctor’s since I had no idea how long we would be there. First up, a honeycrisp apple.

Then, some pita chips, which I forgot to photograph.

I’m doing everything I can to avoid catching the flu myself! I’m

  • washing my hands
  • trying to eat healthy
  • drinking plenty of water
  • not kissing Jason

I’m not sure what else there is to do, short of staying away from my bug Jason and/or getting a flu shot!

**UPDATE!** Jason’s temp is only 99.1 after taking both motrin and tylenol, hooray!

Have you had the flu? I haven’t had it since middle school! (Knocking on wood RIGHT NOW!!)

Liquid Lunch

I made it through the cavity filling… but I’m still numb 3.5 hours later! The dentist assistant lady told me that the dentist barely gave me any anesthesia, and that most people metabolize it in an hour and a half… umm… is my metabolism slower than I thought?

I can’t feel half of my mouth! I tried to snack on some grapes (ok, one) and it was so akward feeling to chew. I made it through 1 grape and put them in the fridge for later! LOL.

It was already 1:15 pm and I didn’t know how long it would take for the anesthesia to wear off. I decided that a green smoothie would be a perfect solution! It’s been a while since I’ve had one anyways!

It fit perfectly in the shaker! (Thanks, Summit swag bag!)

I included:

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 banana
  • ice
  • half a bag of spinach
  • Amazing grass packet
  • 1 scoop protein powder (adds 18g protein and 100 calories- trying to make it more of a “meal”

I have to say, that the berry flavor is not very pleasant. Ever time I take a sip, I feel like I’m taking medicine. Yucky! I contemplated throwing it away, but don’t want to waste all the ingredients- That’s $$ Down the drain! I(I do like the chocolate one, however!)

I am now sipping out of a straw, because I got a little green drool on my shirt already. (Disgusting, I know! I’ll spare you the pic!)

Alrighty, back to studying Hydrology! I am anticipating this smoothie will take about an hour to drink, at least. By then, hopefully my mouth will be better, and ready for solid food!

My favorite things so far are the shaker itself, and the Chocolate Kidz SuperFood mix. I didn’t like the berry mix or the SuperFood bar either!

Warning: Contents in Glass More Filling then They Appear

Somehow the other day at Whole Paycheck Foods, I ended up with this packet of Chocolate Kidz SuperFood in my cart.

How did that get there?! I’m not a kid!

Ok, it was cheaper… and I’m poor. 😀

Straight from the website:

A nutritional powerhouse that combines 33 rainbow colored fruits and vegetables in a delicious chocolate drink powder. Mix with milk or water. One serving gives you the antioxidant equivalent of 3 servings of fruits and vegetables.

SWEET!! It smelled really chocolatey , and it did a great job of adding a sweet chocolate flavor to my smoothie. No honey needed today!

I combined these ingredients into my smoothie to make it filling enough for Breakfast:

In the order I put them in the blender…

  • 1 cup ice
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 scoop protein powder (adds 9 grams!)
  • 1 TBL Flax
  • Kidz SuperFood packet
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • banana
  • 2 giant handfuls of spinach
  • (I didn’t add the strawberries in the end)

It ended up making 1.5 glasses of smoothie!

I know that to some people this “breakfast” would not appear filling, but trust me, It makes about 20 oz. of liquid and with all the protein and nutrients it keeps me pretty full. Especially on non-run days! I usually can’t finish the last bit of the second glass!

Has anyone noticed that their skin is looking extra good from drinking these? I honestly think that all these smoothies are improving my complexion… am I crazy?

Babysitting Day One: A++

My first day at babysitting didn’t go too bad! I had a great day running around, playing multiple games of Candy land, working on puzzles, throwing a football for hours, making grilled cheese sammies, and best of all seeing Michael eat a green smoothie.

I explained to his mom the green concoction and she suggested I make one for her to split so she could try it. She also thought it tasted great and was so happy her son ate something other than Peanut butter or grilled cheese! I had half of the green smoothie:

Dinner wasn’t all that stellar. My stepmom cooked while I set up my Foodbuzz accounts! She made peppercorn chicken, broccoli, edamame, and rice with herbs. We were busy chatting and she overcooked pretty much everything. LOL oh well!

I wasn’t that hungry since I pretty much drank “The Incredible Hulk Smoothie” only an hour earlier. I had a little sampling of each and now I’m stuffed to the brim. 😦

I still managed to find oom for dessert my calcium supplement, a dark chocolate Adora Disk.

Alrighty, well its been quite a long day, I’m off to bed! I have a speed workout planned for the morning. A few readers e-mailed me asking how I got the paces for my training plans, so I will be discussing that in the morning!

MUAHAHA…

…I’m so evil.

First day on the job, (I’m babysitting for two kids this summer) and I already got the kiddos drinking Green Monsters! LOL… I am honestly so proud. Michael hasn’t eaten a vegetable since he was probably 3. He is now almost 9.

I have the photographic evidence to prove it!!

I honestly think that I deserve a raise or something… at least an award. His “Incredible Hulk Smoothie” had banana, 2 handfuls of spinach, 1/2 cup milk, and ALOT of Organic Honey. YAY!

Sorry if I’m over excited lol. Moving on to lunch…. I had a half whole wheat pita with two slices of deli turkey, mixed greens, and spicy mustard. I had minimal choices to work with but still came up with something pretty healthy!

How would you get a kid who only likes peanut butter sandwiches, no fruit, and no veggies to eat something healthy? Would you just call it something fun? I need tips!
