Purple Oats

I actually slept in this morning until 7:30! Well… I woke up at 5, hugged Jason goodbye, and fell back asleep.

Once I was up, I had half a z-bar and headed to the gym for a speed workout. I’m not a huge treadmill fan, but it gets the job done when I need to be quick.

I ran 3.5 miles in about 31 minutes. I started at 6.0 for the first mile as a warm-up, and then jumped around ever 0.25 miles from 7.0 to 8.0, 6.5, 7.5… etc. for the rest of the workout. It felt great and I watched the news the whole time.

Once I got back, I was in a hurry. I have a dentist appointment in 20 minutes from now! I made oatmeal while I showered (benefit of microwaving!):

My oatmeal had:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 TBL flax
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • sprinkle of walnuts!

Once I mixed it up, it turned purple!

It tasted perfect! Such a good combination of flavors!

I’m off to the dentist. I have to get a small cavity filled. I’m like SUPER nervous because I hate the dentist. Last time I cried the whole way home when I found out I had to come back for this.  😦

National Running Day and PB Oats

Good morning, lovelies! Did you know today is Inaugural National Running Day?

Pft… go figure I didn’t even run 🙂 If you live in the Orlando Area, check out Track Shack’s run tonight!

This morning I did my first strength routine in a long time and boy did it hurt feel great! 🙂

I warmed up with 20 minutes on the Elliptical Machine and then did:

  • 3 sets of 10 push-ups (I suck at these!!)
  • 3 sets of 10 “Three-Way-Shoulders” [10 lb weights]
  • 3 sets of 10 Biceps curls [12 lbs]
  • 3 sets of 20 Overhead triceps [12 lb-ouch]
  • 3 sets of 10 Hammer curls [10 lbs]
  • 3 sets of 10 Tricep Kickbacks [10 lbs]
  • 3 sets of 10 Bent-over Row [10 lbs]

This whole thing including the E.M. took under 45 minutes. I move quickly between the activities so that it minimizes gym time. (You could do all these exercises at home if you have a set of dumbells which actually use more than the crappy apt. gym!)

Breakfast was something new!! Like I mentioned, we have no fruit left with the exception of a banana (I’m saving for breakfast tomorrow- I crave bananas after I run).

My Peanut Butter Oatmeal!

  • 1/2 cup Oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup fat free milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 TBL Natural PB (no trans fat!)

This is the first time I have made this combo and I really liked it! If you add chocolate chips it might be a Reese’s PB cup breakfast!

A lot of people have been asking Questions about the move so I will try to clear it up: (if you have more feel free to ask!)

Q: Do you and Jason live together?

A: Yes. I understand that choice is not right for everyone and a lot of my old friends would judge me for this but that is their right.

Q: Where are you moving?

A: We are moving down the hall to a bigger apartment. We currently live in a one bedroom, one bathroom. The new apartment has two bedrooms (one will be an office) and a patio!!

Q: Why bother?

A: We are doing this because it is actually cheaper and has more space. If Jason gets transferred for his new job we will rent the extra room out so that it will help with rent.

Q: When is the move?

A:The move is next Friday, June 12. We are already getting ready for it because I start work next Monday and will be gone thru Thursday.

Where I Blog

Happy 1st Day of June! 🙂

I thought I was starting my summer babysitting job today but I was mistaken. I start next Monday meaning I’m home for another week with nothing structured to do!! ugh! I need to work on packing since I will be moving next Friday!

This morning I got up and ran 3.0 miles on the T-mill at the gym. Nothing crazy since today is scheduled to be an easy day according to the training schedule. It took 30 minutes to run which was a nice leisurely pace for me.

I plan on doing a quick ab workout and maybe lifting weights later today but we’ll see. I have a lot of work to get done!

Next up is breakfast. I know I just ate the same Oatmeal a few days ago, sorry for being a boring blogger! I need to use up my strawberries before they go bad though.

I made a bowl of Oatmeal with:

  • 1/2 cup Oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 TBL Brown Sugar
  • Sliced Strawberries
  • Almonds

What are you wearing right now? ha My sweaty workout clothes. Nike Running shorts and a sports bra. eeew I need to shower. (embarrassing!)

What’s the last thing you read/are currently reading? I’m reading Michael Pollan’s “In Defense of Food”. I just started reading it but it is great so far. I will be posting a review once I finish it.

Do you nap a lot? NO, I rarely nap. I took a two-hour nap on Saturday after the beach but honestly I hate naps. I sleep so badly at night that I would rather just be extra-tired so I can fall right asleep. Sometimes I nap after races, but other times I get right on with the day.

Who was the last person you hugged? My boyfriend, Jason 🙂

What’s your current obsession/addiction? honestly probably this blog! I’m still getting used to it and I really want to update the layout.

What’s for dinner?
Oh gosh. I haven’t thought that far! Maybe I should try the Tempeh I bought! Any suggestions on how to make it?

What was the last thing you bought?
Groceries or gas.

What are you listening to right now? Pandora.com, my “Jack Johnson” channel

If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Flying!! I think that it would be waaaay cool.

What is your favorite weather and why?
Probably Fall weather, but not Florida fall. When I visit my mom around October-ish in North Carolina that is my absolute favorite weather. I hate heat!!

What time do you usually wake up?
Depends. When I was working last Fall I had to be at work at 6am so I would wake up at 5am. My classes this past semester were all after 3pm so I woke up whenever. Now I’m going to start having to wake up at 6am to start working, but on my own I wake up around 6-7am.

What is your most challenging goal right now?
Finishing my last year of school without going completely broke. I also plan on running a marathon in Feb. 2010 but more on that at another time.

Favorite pair of shoes that you keep going back to over and over again even though you have a zillion others?
My black Reefs! I left them in Tampa once, and I immediatlely had to buy a new pair. I just left the new pair in Maryland, but luckily I have the backup pair. I wear them EVERYWHERE!

What time is bed time?
whenever I get tired, usually between 10:30-11:30

If there was one place you could be right now where would it be?
Honestly, I’m happy to be home! I spent 10 days away from home and I only have a week until I start moving. If I had to choose somewhere else, I would probably choose the beach. I’ll leave you with a picture for Saturday at the beach.

Family-riffic Weekend

Hello, Again!

Yesterday and today we were in Germantown (?), Maryland for Jason’s family reunion.


It was a very family-riffic weekend!!
I hadn’t met alot of Jason’s aunts and uncles and other extended family members so that was interesting.

The main event was centered around these lovely folks: Jason’s aunts and his dad (all brothers and sisters) and their spouses.

I started my morning with a quick breakfast for the road- Oatmeal to Go and a cup of 1% milk. These are really yummy when you heat them in the microwave for 10 seconds. They are full of fiber so they do a great job of keeping you full for a while.


By the time we got there and checked into our hotel, it was after noon and my stomach was growling. I snacked on a 100 calorie pack Jason’s little brother Zach so graciously gave me!! 😀

The place the reunion was held was quite beautiful!! The sky was also cloud-free which made for a perfect day.


They had plenty of outdoor activities to keep the kids (and sort of grown up kids) occupied.


While we played I munched on some veggies…. I already ate two broccoli’s by the time I got back to my camera lol.

It was around 3:30 when “Linner” (Lunch/dinner) was served. It was mostly bbq stuff which I’m not a big fan of but I always manage to find something healthy. I had green beans (which were too buttery-bleh, a taste of mac n cheese, peppered chicken, and some fruit. Yes, I’m aware that you can see salt on my food…. its not a good habit!!


After we ate we hung around taking random pics:

Attractive, huh? No, not really. But Katie’s 18 month old sister (Amy) is such a cutie!!


The rest of the afternoon was pretty much some more games and chasing kids. I tried a glass of this supposedly awesome wine- take my advice, it was obnoxiously sugary. After two sips I tossed it.


I munched onSome m&m’s times 5: (oopsy!! Candy is my weakness)

I kept trying to take a pic of the lodge as we were leaving but Jason thouroughly enjoyed ruining every pic lol.


…. sorry this is so long… I’ll leave you with my Small dinner- chicken soup from chick-fil-a… mmmm

A Run Down Memory Lane…

BRRRRRRRRR…. I laced up my shoes this morning and headed out the door to find a chilly gust of 52 degree air. Um, what is going on?? I thought it was like summer time now. I’m beginning to think I should have packed some warmer clothes for this trip! Uh-Oh!

High/Low’s for the next few days are:
today= 64/44
tues= 72/49
wed= 77/55
thurs=72/61

I started getting all the same issues as when I run in the winter: runny nose, cold hands, and that weird feeling in your lungs from having cold air in them. Such a change from sweating buckets/overheating that I experienced just 2 days ago! Anyways….

Today’s Run Stats:

  • Distance: 3.42 miles
  • Time: 33:00
  • Average Pace: 9:39 min/mile
  • Average Heart Rate: 169 bpm (Max 190!! darn hills)

My run was amazing though. If you’ve read my ABOUT section you know that I started running in 2007. I lived up here in NC with my mom for 3 months and this is the place where it all began. I forgot how hilly it is here, I’m not used to that anymore!


Honestly, how could you NOT want to run if you had this just down the road. When I first started, I seriously couldn’t even make it once around this lake (0.7 miles). Just goes to show that anyone who puts in some hard work can become a runner- granted it took months.

Once I got back, I raided my mom’s pantry and found this box of Kashi GoLEAN Oatmeal:


I haven’t tried this kind (I usually make my own using Publix Brand Quick Oats) but I love all the other Kashi products so I decided to whip this up. I was impressed by the nutrition facts and took the idea of putting strawberries in it right from the box’s cover. I also mashed up some almonds and added a packet of Truvia to make it a little sweeter. It was pretty good!!

Well- I’m on my own today since sis is at school and mom is at work. I need to go find some trouble to get into or something.
