Marathon Mood

It’s hours away from the Disney marathon and I am a bundle of nerves!

My BFF Debbie and her fiance, Mike, got in really late last night. I am so happy that my best pal is here to run the marathon with me!! 😀

I woke up SUPER early this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. My mind was racing (no pun intended) so I decided to get up and do something productive. I managed to clean out my entire closet and beneath the sink in the bathroom before Debbie and Mike woke up.

I snacked on a bowl of Multigrain cheerios before breakfast around 5:30 or 6am.

Once we were all up and ready, we made a real breakfast. I ate the last of the Oikos out of the tub, with fruit and nut granola, and blueberries.

After breakfast, we headed to pick up our race packets and t-shirts.

Seeing my shirt say “Marathon” made my heart skip a beat. I seriously CAN NOT believe that I am finally going to run this marathon!

I was a little disappointed to see that Debbie and I were not placed in the same corral. 😦

They base the corral on half marathon time, which makes no sense why she got placed in D, when all of our other friends (Caitlin, Kelly, and Meghann) are in C. I also have no idea why I am in B. Sub 4-hour marathon? Why does everyone keep telling me that!! I plan to stick with Debbie in corral D. I’m going to run this race for fun. Sorry, rant over.

After packet pick-up, we headed to the marathon expo at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

It was packed!

I caught a glimpse our marathon medals!

So exciting! 😀

I found the perfect shirt!

Toenails are for sissies. Hehe… perfect considering my toe surgery in the middle of marathon training!

While at the expo, I munched on a PB+J Larabar.

Once we got home, we turned on Spirit of the Marathon. We have it live streaming through Netflix on the Xbox 360 Live (I think).

It’s an inspiring movie, and putting us in a very marathon mood.

While we watched, we ate Publix subs. Normally, these guys can fill me up for at least 5 or 6 hours, but I am going to have to eat dinner again in 3.5 hours. Gah! Hurry up digesting!!!

Debbie and Mike make me laugh. They are too funny!

Oh yeah, we had some chocolate for dessert. Carbo loading, of course!

In exactly 12 hours, we will be boarding the shuttle from our hotel to the marathon starting line. AAAAAAAAH!

Time to get packing! I am getting SO excited! I still have no idea what to wear…

Will YOU be there!?

I’m sort of in a super excited state right now. Like pre-race jitters… but way too early.

This morning, I tried to calmly eat my strawberry shortcake oatmeal. I wolfed it down. (oatmeal, brown sugar, graham cracker, strawberries, and plain oikos.)

Followed by two chocolate chip cookies. (!?!?!)

I figured out that negative stress causes me to lose my appetite. Being overly happy and excited makes me crave sugar. Interesting.

In attempt to balance the cookies, I made a huge, healthy salad for lunch. This bowl is bigger than my head.

The bowl of veggies included:

  • spring mix
  • spinach
  • red pepper
  • broccoli
  • sugar snap peas
  • avocado
  • 1/2 can white beans
  • carrot

I feel like there are so many people running the Disney marathon that I’m not aware of.

Are you running the Disney half or full marathon this weekend? Will YOU be there?

Yucky Weather and Half Traditions

If tomorrow morning’s weather is anything like today’s…

…it’s going to be windy, cold, and rainy! Boo.

I’m new to the whole “running in the rain”. I usually avoid it at all costs. I’m used to running in super hot sun, in shorts and a tank top.

I have no idea if the weather is going to help or hinder my running performance. I guess I will find out!

I have all my gear laid out for the morning: (just realized i need pants and socks… )

Plus a change of clothes in case I get soaking wet. I expect to be drenched.

I’m stealing some of Caitlin’s Running in the rain tips!

I have my iPod in a ziploc

..a hat for face shielding…

Good News! I found out that the Garmin 305 is waterproof!? Click here for proof.

My “carb loading” was not ideal but I did get a decent dinner in. It’s pretty much a tradition that I eat pizza the night before half marathons. I’m sticking to my tradition.

I had two slices of veggie pizza

…with dipping sauce 😀

A slightly random tradition is my lucky race earrings. I forgot to wear them at my last half and did really bad (for me) and finished in 1:58:45!!!

When I did wear them (a few months earlier)… I finished in 1:50:26!!

Before I found out about this crappy weather my plan was to go for sub 1:50 finish time. That equals a 8:23 min/mile pace which is REALLY fast sounding (for me). I’m not really getting my hopes up, so I’m just going to have as much fun as possible.

I think that a good race doesn’t have to mean your best time. The best runner is the one having the most fun. 😀

How do you deal with running in conditions you aren’t used to? Do you find that it helps or hurts your abilities? I think it could go either way!

Wish me luck!  I’m off to bed.  Alarm is set for 4:30 am.

I’ll be back in the morning with a recap! 😀

Half Mary To-Do List

I really should not be blogging right now. I’ll try to be quick.

I started my day with a big bowl of cereal. Gotta get those carbs in for tomorrow!

It was actually a pretty sweet combo:

  • Trader Joes’ cereal
  • Kashi h2h cereal
  • banana
  • vanilla soymilk
  • almond butter

The almond butter made it taste SO good!

My To Do List for the day doesn’t have an end. Literally!

[To Do List] x 10^n

Seeeeeee…. I told you!

The “fun” part of my to-do list is prepping for tomorrow’s half marathon! I’m trying to actually be organized this race, instead of waiting until 10:00 pm and thinking about charging things, etc. I made a list of everything I need to do/pack/make sure is washed/charged.

No Expectations

Tomorrow is the big day! Well, just a 15k (9.3) race. Who am I kidding, that is awesome!

I have never raced this distance before, and I’m really excited! I honestly have NO idea how I will do, but no matter my speed, I’m automatically going to PR! I am thinking of pacing like I was in a half marathon, just finishing 4 miles early. 😀

I have no expectations for tomorrow other than to try my best and have fun! I put way too much pressure on myself during the Rock N’ Run 5k two weeks ago, and I didn’t enjoy that race as much as I normally would have. I finished and said, “meh, 24:23”… when honestly that is a great time for me! I think it’s important at this to remember why I am there, to have fun!!

My body was begging for extra sleep, so I stayed in bed until 8:00am. That might not sound late, but I am used to waking up at 5:00-6:00 every single day including weekends, so I greatly appreciated the extra rest!

I finally got up and moving and made some breakfast. Purple Peanut butter oats!

In the bowl:

  • 1/2 cup Oats
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk (so good!)
  • 1 TBL peanut butter
  • thawed out berries

I love it when I mix it all up and it gets purple!

Lunch was a refried bean and cheese burrito:

side salad with spinach, tomato, green pepper, avocado

…and some black bean chips (x2) 😀

I’m trying to focus on including a little carbs/protein/fat in each meal. I think this does a good job!

Have you ever run a 15k? That distance seems so odd to me. I once ran an 8k… even weirder!

In Other News….

Jason’s camera battery died, so I guess I’ll be back to using my 4.0 mega pixel brick 6 year old junk camera until he finds the charger!!! Good-bye beautiful food photos… see you soon! ***cough, Jason find the battery!!, cough***

Pre 5k Nerves!

In approximately 9.5 hours, I will be at the starting line of the Rock N’ Run 5k!

It’s been too long since I’ve raced! The last race (other than biking in the tri-relay) was in January for a 5k that I did HORRIBLE at! I am so nervous, because I really have nothing recent to base my time on! I’ve been training hard, so I think I’m ready. 😀

Usually, I race alone, or with BFF Debbie, so I’ve never been that competitive. This race is different, because Caitlin, Meghann, Kelly, BFF Debbie, Debbie’s friend Joanna will all be racing! I’m so excited to see how everyone does! A little friendly competition is pretty motivating, though!

I’ll wait for you girls at the finish line 😉

JasoNerd is racing tomorrow, too, so I can’t wait to see how he does!

For dinner, we made a quick pre-race favorite: spaghetti!

I made a big batch of spaghetti and topped mine with some steamed broccoli and zucchini. YUM!

Nothing fancy, but I like to have stuff that’s easy on my stomach. No toilet hugging for me, thank you!

I didn’t have real snacks today, but I definitely grazed on more Pretzels and PB, a couple mini-muffins, and some grapes.

I have my clothes and shoes laid out…

… and my Garmin’s charging!

Now I just have to remember:

  • set my alarm for 5:00 AM
  • race bib and pins
  • directions
  • wallet and phone
  • camera
  • ipod
  • Garmin
  • breakfast
  • body glide
  • sweat towel for the car ride home
  • to do my best!

So excited for tomorrow! My goal is sub 25:00, but I’m just going to give it my all!

Good Luck to everyone who is racing!! Let’s Rock N’ Run!
