Project Glow Recap

One month ago, I wrote, "With all the stress I have been under lately, my face is breaking out like crazy! It looks like I have the skin of a 13 year old, not a 23 year old.”


I knew that something had to be done, so I started Angela’s regime, Project Glow.

My skin was breaking out, and I had red blotchy patches all over. It was oily in some places, and dry in others. My pores always seemed to look large and filled with dirt.


I took this picture the night before I started Project Glow, and had no makeup, and just washed my face.

WOW! My skin has completely improved!




The blotchy patches have almost disappeared, and so have all the blackheads. I did not develop any new pimples, and most of the old ones disappeared in the first two weeks of Project Glow.




I took both of these photos (wearing no makeup) right before a FULL day of school… think THREE exams. Even with all that stress, my skin looks so much better.


I used all of these St. Ives products religiously:





After starting Project Glow, I also used a Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% Acne Treatment every few days on the already existing problem areas. That seemed to dry my face out ALOT, so I only used it in small areas. Then, I would wait for it to dry, and use the facial moisturizer on top of it.


Another big change was that I pretty much stopped wearing makeup. I used to wear it everyday, and I only wore mascara for the most part (with a few exceptions, for going out). I wanted to let my skin “breathe”. The good part, is now that my face has cleared, I don’t really “need” the make-up like I did before.


Success! Project Glow worked for me.

Project Glow

With all the stress I have been under lately, my face is breaking out like crazy! It looks like I have the skin of a 13 year old, not a 23 year old.

It’s not HORRIBLE but it is far from good or clear. I have tiny red bumps and blotchy patches.


I remembered that about a year ago, Angela created Project Glow for Caitlin. Basically it is a one month skin care challenge which focuses on making your skin clearer and more radiant from the inside out.


I know that I’m about 10 months late for Angela’s challenge, but it’s never too late to start caring for your skin. I have decided that in the month of March, I will be trying this challenge, with some modifications of my own.

My plan:

1. Wash my face twice a day. (I’m REALLY bad about washing my face…)


I am planning to use the St. Ives’ Apricot scrub that is used in the original plan once a day (in the morning), and the St. Ives’ green tea cleanser in the evening to remove any dirt, oil, and makeup leftover from the day.




My skin is usually normal to oily, but once I start washing it a lot more, it tends to get extremely dry, to the point of cracking and flaking. I am using this facial moisturizer to help combat the dryness.




2. Green Smoothies


While I can’t guarantee that I will be able to drink them every day due to my hectic and sporadic schedule, I will try to incorporate them into my routine as much as possible.




3. Drink more water.


Again, another thing I am REALLY bad at. I probably only drink about 16 oz. of water a day right now because I’m either drinking coffee, La Croix (sparkling water), or tea. I’m going to try to gradually increase the amount of water I am drinking, and decrease the other junk.



I got the first day of the challenge started this morning. After a quick 2.5 mile run to get my blood flowing, I came back and made a smoothie and toast.




Mmmm… burnt toast with PB.




…and a  green  brown smoothie.




Today’s smoothie included:

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • banana
  • ice
  • 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries
  • honey
  • 2 cups packed spinach


I hope to at least figure out what works on my skin type. I’m not really sure if it will. I will keep you all updated on my progress this month, and do an after pic and review at the end of the month.


I need to head out. I’m making up some hours at work between classes today. Next week is spring break, and I have a couple of fun adventures planned! 😀
