Lunch by the Lake

Things have been pretty boring in my world the past few days. Without running or much school work to do, I’ve just been being a bum for a bit.

I made muffins this morning, using a Trader Joe’s Triple Berry Bran mix. I bought the mix when I was in Ohio over winter break, and decided to try them out.

I made them according to the box directions, but added a bunch of craisins (dried cranberries). Best decision ever.

I crumbled one on top of vanilla Oikos yogurt, added a kiwi, and an apple. It made for a delicious breakfast.

I wanted to get out today and clear my head for a bit, so I headed to Moss Park in Orlando.

IMG_1465

I took a walk to the Split Oak which ended up being about a 4.5 mile walk.

After my walk, I headed down to the lake for a picnic lunch.

IMG_1481

I had a turkey and cheese with all veggies sub from publix

IMG_1482

A few handfuls of pretzels…

IMG_1483

…which by the way, are shaped like footballs!

…and a tangerine.

As I ate my lunch, I thought about the Moss Park Triathlon relay that Ryan, Caitlin, and I participated in back in July.

Today at the Lake…

Back in July, at the same lake…

While reminiscing, I failed to realize the cranes sneaking up on me. I heard a noise behind me and slooooowwwly turned around and BAM… this guy was looking right at me.

IMG_1486

He brought along a friend. Apparently they wanted my pretzels. I don’t know if birds are supposed to eat pretzels, but they seemed to like them!?

IMG_1489

Oh gosh, am I turning into the bird lady!?!

IMG_1490

Nah. 😉

It was nice just to get out and enjoy the nice-ish weather- it started to drizzle right as I was leaving. I’m really thankful for peaceful times in life, and today was one of those days.

Things I’m Thankful For #10

Not running for the past 13 days has made me realize that I am SO thankful for every run.

I missed running a ridiculous amount. I have been trying to play at cool on the blog, but I was crying like a whiney baby on the inside.

 image

Running is truly my passion. Ever since I started three years ago, I haven’t ever had to take a long break. Taking  break was really hard, even if it was just a short one!

I love pushing myself farther than I think I can, the endorphins, and the good mood that it puts me in.

Rock N Run 5k

I’m thankful for Every. Single. Mile.

I don’t want to every take a run for granted!

Things I’m Thankful For #9

As much hard work as I put in to school, I really need to start appreciating my down time. I’m thankful for vacations, time off, and travelling!

I always complain that “I never go anywhere”, but I know that isn’t true. Looking back on the last two years of pictures on my computer, and I instantly changed my mindset.

I’m thankful for all the places I’ve been able to see in my life! Here’s a little picture timeline… 😀

Myrtle Beach: Nov. 2007

Jason and I had only been dating officially for a month, and we made a road trip up to Myrtle Beach… just because?!

IMG_2488

It was FREEEEZING! (Well… for a beach)

March 2008: Miami, FL

SWE MIAMI 114

I went to Miami on a road trip with a big group of girls! IMG_2533

Well… technically we were there for the Society of Women Engineers Conference (SWE)… (Can you find me? I’m the bottom of the “S”)

No worries, we still had a blast…

March 2008: San Diego, California!

I spent spring break week with my friend Taylor. It was the first trip I actually saved up to pay for with all of my own money. I was so proud to travel just for fun, and not to visit family.

Mexico! ok… well just the border.

Vegas! ok… just the airport.

Things I’m Thankful For #8

Even though two of them aren’t fully working at the moment, I’m thankful for my toes.

IMG_0900

I am thankful that I have all ten of them! (Mine are on the left!)

It might sound like something ODD to be thankful for. However, it something I  really take for granted. Balancing is nearly impossible without all ten toes.

I can’t even imagine running without them! How awkward would that be!?!

DSC_0249

(This picture was taken this afternoon… see, they’re healing!!!!)

They carry me through life, propel me forward, and give me balance…even if they are slightly ugly looking! Once they are healed, I will be even MORE thankful for them!

Just think about how funny sandals would look without toes…

Do you take your toes for granted? I never really appreciated them until now! 😉

Things I’m Thankful For #7

Today in the United States of America, we are celebrating Veterans’ Day.

image

Veterans’ Day is a day to honor and celebrate the veterans who have defended our country. It is also a day of sadness, as we recognize that many have lost their lives doing so.

Today I am especially grateful for those who have served our country and those currently serving.  Not only am I grateful to those actually in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or National Guard, I am also thankful to their families.  Those who are left behind while their spouse, child, parent, loved one serves.  Thank you for your support.

Thank you, Veterans!

Things I’m Thankful For #6

I’m thankful for Farmer’s Markets, especially when there’s great weather, and great company!

IMG_0010

Jason and I checked out a new [to us] farmer’s market up in Maitland. The scenery was much nicer than the downtown scene.

 IMG_0011

I’m thankful to be able to buy fresh, local produce!

IMG_0012

Which of course, includes my favorite: Honeycrisp Apples!

IMG_0013

Tomatoes!

IMG_0014

More Veggies!

IMG_0015

I’m thankful for free samples

 IMG_0017

IMG_0020

…and for freshly popped kettle corn!

IMG_0018 IMG_0019

I’m thankful my boyfriend bought me a bag of my own! 😀

IMG_0021 IMG_0022

It was thankful just to stroll through the park.

(Jason was ahead of me the whole time, I’m a slow poke with these toes!)

IMG_0024

What do you love about farmer’s markets? The plants? The produce? Or just strolling around, taking in the fresh air?

Things I’m Thankful For #5

Continuing on with my Things I’m Thankful for series

I am thankful for my health.

image

When I was filling out pre-surgery forms at the doctor’s office, I realized how healthy I actually am!

There were several categories of health ailments, with boxes to check if you had issues with any thing in the past. I am thankful that I have no history (or family history) of diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, obesity, cancer, major dental problems, psychological, or respiratory problems.

My blood pressure is 98/65. Way below normal, thanks to running!

I am thankful that I have the knowledge of how to keep myself healthy through [balanced] diet and exercise. I am thankful that I have access to whole, fresh, healthy food.

image

My overall health is something I take for granted. I know I do not eat perfectly, and that I still have room for improvement. I will never be perfect, but being healthy isn’t about perfection. It’s about balance.
