Bundle of Nerves

This morning, I had to give an 8-minute presentation in my hydrology class. It could be on any topic related to water (quality/control), which meant I was free to choose pretty much anything.

I’m NOT a huge fan of public speaking, mostly because I have barely any practice. I sit at my computer or in front of textbooks calculating stuff all day.

I was SO nervous beforehand. Even though I practiced at LEAST 8 times last night, it was totally different. I was well prepared, and had no reason to be so terrified. My heart was like racing, and my stomach was filled with butterflies.

Once I got up to present, I took a deep breath, and dove right in. I felt really confident, and people seemed like they were actually paying attention! Hopefully  I did well. It was so nerve wracking!

In case you ever need to know anything about the Ancient Roman Aqueducts, feel free to ask. I feel like an expert.

I’ve got a lot going on right now. I was up until 2:00 am working on various school projects.

My Life = [To Do List + Homework] x 10^n

I had to wake up at 5:30am to make it to my class, so it was a coffee morning for me!  I’m sure you know how it goes.

DSC_0064

I ate a stabilizing breakfast before I left:

DSC_0063

  • Honey Oikos
  • 1/2 cup Kashi H2H
  • 1/2 cup Kash goLean
  • Strawberries

My tummy was growling by 10:00 am. Obviously it was way to early for lunch, so I had half a White Chocolate Macadamia Nut CLIF bar.

My lunch is ready! Time to grab it out of the oven. See you tonight!

Are you good at public speaking? How do you shake the nervous feeling?

Five More Weeks

Happy Monday Morning!

It was tough waking up at 5:30 am this morning. I have been relaxing, lounging, sleeping in since Friday!

It was definitely a coffee kind of morning

DSC_0055

I hit “snooze” a few too many times, and ended up grabbing a CLIF bar on the way out the door. By the way, I love all flavors.

DSC_0057

By the time I got back from my first class (my second was cancelled, thank goodness!)… I was starving!

I made a green smoothie to hold me over until lunch.

DSC_0063

It was the most basic of green smoothies ever:

  • Ice
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 banana
  • 1 TBL flax
  • 3 cups of spinach

With a little honey to sweeten up my Monday!

The next five weeks at a glance…

Even though I am obsessed with my g-calendar (Google Calendar) and have been faithfully relying on it for about three years now, I do LOVE to get things written out on this board:

DSC_0071

I like crossing off the days, and having a general overview of when things are happening.

Some exciting things coming up in the next month or so:

  • November 18: I can run again!!
  • Nov 19-23: Going to visit BFF Debbie in New Jersey
  • Thanksgiving with my family in Tampa
  • Possible Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
  • OUC Half Marathon (my third year running, sad Deb won’t be there, but still)
  • FINALS
  • Senior Design project due! (Ummm… need to get started, STAT)

It’s time for me to buckle down and get some things done. I need to figure out a way to stay sane through all of this craziness!

Do you prefer to keep track of your days using an electronic calendar, like G-Calendar, or do you prefer to hand write it?

Purple [Dino]Sore Toe

For the past week or more, I’ve been having problems with my left big toe. Every since Friday’s long run, my toe has been as purple as the shirt I wore on my run this morning:

IMG_1492

I think that my toenail is ingrown, and unfortunately now infected. It hurts A LOT when I run, and if I touch area around the nail. I’m heading to the doctor at 1:00pm to make sure that running isn’t going to cause gangrene or something, and possibly get it taken care of. I would hate for a stupid piece of nail to affect my marathon training!!

I decided to get in a good “last run” in case they have to surgically remove my toenail (which Jason had to have done, and was off his foot for two weeks!!) Gaaah!

I had a 7.0 miler on my marathon training plan, and there was no way I was letting it pass me by. I like to think I’m hardcore. 😉

Mile Stats:

  • Mile 1: 9:30 (warm-up)
  • Mile 2: 9:00
  • Mile 3: 8:47
  • Mile 4: 8:42
  • Mile 5: 8:46
  • Mile 6: 8:47
  • Mile 7: 8:36

Woo hoo! I finished with an average pace of 8:52 min/mile! If my toe falls off, I will die happy after that run. Ok… just kidding.

Breakfast

I was extremely hungry after my run, even though I had half a CLIF bar moments before I walked out the door.

Cereal and yogurt sounded refreshing, so that’s what I made!

IMG_1495

My bowl included:

  • small container vanilla Oikos yogurt
  • 1/2 cup Kashi go Lean
  • 1/2 cup Kashi heart to heart cereal
  • banana
  • 1 TBL flax

IMG_1496

YUM!

Ok, wish me luck!

I have another exam tonight, and the Doctor’s appointment. I am crossing my fingers that there is something they can do for my toe that won’t keep me from marathon training. I’m half way there!

Meals on the Go

I had to say goodbye to my little sister this afternoon. 😦

Before we left for the airport, I made a Mexican themed lunch:

IMG_1482

I had a cup of black bean soup

 IMG_1481

…and a salad.

IMG_1483

My salad included:

  • romaine lettuce
  • green bell pepper
  • crumbled chips
  • Grilled chicken breast
  • cheese
  • salsa

On the way to test number two of the day, I ate a CLIF bar mini in the car. I almost brought a Pumpkin pie Kashi bar, but I have missed the Brownie! Jason always steals them, but this one was buried in the bar stash! 😀

IMG_1490

I also stopped at D and D for some Latte love! 99 cents, can’t beat it!

IMG_1491

I packed my dinner in a little Fresh n’ Fit container that I have actually had for a while, but never use. It comes with an ice pack, and individual compartments for snacks. In case anyone is wondering, I found it at Target.

IMG_1485

In the main compartment I packed a turkey and cheese sandwich. The ice pack fits over the sandwich area, and rests on little “shelves” so it doesn’t squish the sandwich.

IMG_1486

I filled the top two containers with fruits and veggies: one with carrots and peas, and one with strawberries.

IMG_1488

Each of those fits into the groves on the ice pack…

IMG_1487

…and closes with the lid!

IMG_1489

It kept my food cold (for 6 hours) without having to pack the whole bulky lunch cooler! I really liked using it!

What do you use to carry around your meals or snacks when you’re on the go?

Edited to add: I’m currently nibbling on Mickey’s Ear… ok… putting down the rice krispie treat…

Study Free Sunday

Despite the fun I had last night (read: BEER!) I managed to wake up at 7:30 am.

I actually felt pretty good, and decided to go ahead with my scheduled run. I only had 6.0 miles on the marathon training plan. I really like getting my long runs done on Friday, since the weekends seem to get so busy!!

I’ve been doing a lot of long, slow runs. I really felt like running fast today! Here are my mile splits:

  • Mile 1:  9:39
  • Mile 2:  9:04
  • Mile 3:  8:55
  • Mile 4:  8:44
  • Mile 5:  8:37
  • Mile 6:  8:26

Negative Splits… woo hoo!!

I ate half this CLIF bar before, and half after my run.

IMG_1225

After my run, I quickly showered and jumped in the car to head to Tampa. I left my sister there last weekend to hang with our dad, and I went back to pick her up. To make the trip not seem so pointless (3 hours roundtrip) we met up with our two aunts and grandma for brunch at Mimi’s Cafe!

IMG_1235

(Grandma, Aunt DeeDee, Me, Aunt Christie, and Brielle )

By the time we got there and seated, it was already almost 1:00 pm. I was STARVING! I didn’t know that it would take so long, or I would have eaten a normal breakfast before I left.

I started off with a pumpkin spice muffin. I was dying to try this. I ate half of it, and save the other half for an afternoon snack.

IMG_1227

Check out that muffin top!

IMG_1228

I ordered the ham, cheese, and broccoli omelet but I made some substitutions. Instead of ham, tomato. Egg whites instead of whole eggs.

IMG_1230

I ate every single bite!!! It was so good!

IMG_1229

My meal also came with grapefruit juice, which I found SO sour!! I gave it to Jason…

IMG_1234

Brielle ordered the same meal. I think she really liked it!!

IMG_1233

It was so nice to see my aunts and grandma again! We managed to chat for over 2 hours!

Dinner

For dinner, I knew that I needed to make my acorn squash! After all, today is the last day to submit recipes for the Blogger Secret ingredient.

I have seen SO many recipes for stuffed squash, I knew I had to try it for myself. I while back, I found Bridget’s recipe and thought it looked good.

 IMG_1242

I made a stuffed acorn squash for myself! Brielle and Jason were still full from brunch.

IMG_1241

I cut an acorn squash in half, and baked upside on a cookie sheet for 25 minutes. I added a little water to the pan so that it would not dry out.

While that was going on, I chopped up 1/4 of a yellow onion, and 1/2 an apple. I threw the onion, apple, and an organic chicken sausage in a pan with 1 tsp of EVOO. Once it was cooked all the way through, I added 1/4 cup of oats and 2 TBL of egg whites.

IMG_1236

I filled the squash with the mixture, and popped it back in the oven for 25 more minutes. It turned out delicious!!

All the ingredients reminded me of fall!

IMG_1238

I will be announcing the winner of this week’s Blogger Secret Ingredient in the morning, so be sure to check back!

Have a great night!

Late Start

Sorry for the delay in posting.I didn’t get home from class until 11:00 pm, and I let myself sleep in!

I woke up around 8:30 this morning, and felt really sluggish. It took me an HOUR to get out the door for my run! I really didn’t feel like running this morning, which was shocking, considering the past two runs I have been super excited about!

I saw 6.0 miles on the marathon training plan and got a little freaked out. Why? I don’t really know. I told myself just to get out there and run at any pace that felt comfortable. I think that worked for me, because basically I was lazy and didn’t feel like pushing it this morning. I ended up completing 6.25 miles in a little over an hour, because I walked a bit (and didn’t stop the watch).

Before I left, I had half a blueberry crisp CLIF bar. I swear it tastes like a Blueberry Muffin!

IMG_1106

I am just now eating breakfast! (Yes, it’s really 11:00 am).

IMG_1108

I used up the last of my Kashi H2H cereal, which was probably two servings, plus a banana, and fat free milk.

IMG_1107

Yesterday…

After lunch, I worked on a project for school, and munched on pretzels and PB straight from the bag. My appetite is still pretty low, so I didn’t worry about eating the whole bag or anything. I love this snack!

IMG_1074

I was SERIOUSLY dragging yesterday. Waking up for a 7:30 am class… and then having to go to class again from 4:30-10:20pm is painful. I stopped for some caffeine!

IMG_1095

Pumpkin Spice Latte! It’s basically a nonfat latte, with one pump pumpkin spice, no whip cream. The real thing is SO sweet, and adds like 200 extra calories. Not necessary at all.

IMG_1078

I packed two leftover tacos for dinner, which I had to eat cold. They got a little soggy, but it was better than paying $$$$ for food on campus.

IMG_1100

I made them before I left:

  • soft taco shells
  • black beans
  • pepper jack cheese
  • green bell pepper
  • tomato

IMG_1066

I wrapped them individually to make it easier to eat and walk.

IMG_1099

When I got home, I needed a little snack. I cut up an apple, sprinkled with cinnamon, and microwaved it for 30 seconds. Delicious!

IMG_1103

Ok, It’s almost 11:30 am. I need to get my day started!!!

Anytime Fitness Winter Park

Good Morning!

A couple of days ago, the lovely people from Anytime Fitness Winter Park, FL contacted me to come check out their gym, and attend a yoga class.

IMG_0655

In the car on the way over, I had a Blueberry crisp CLIF bar. It reminded me of a Blueberry muffin! 😀

IMG_0654

I have only ever been to a yoga class one other time, and it was hard! I’m extremely inflexible, so I was a little nervous about going.

image

The yoga studio was very nice! It was in the back of the building, which was quiet and dark. The little amount of lighting made it feel relaxing and serene.

The instructor was awesome, and kept reminding us that yoga is about focusing and breathing. It doesn’t matter what’s happened before or after, only in THAT moment. Words to live by! We did some gentle stretching- Hatha type yoga, and ended with some meditation.

I tried picturing myself somewhere far away from all my school stress, and this is what I pictured:

LA JOLLA (9)

Beautiful, huh?

(Taken in March 2008, on a trip to San Diego, CA. This is at La Jolla, CA.)

Gentle yoga was just what I needed with all the school stress I have piling up! I never realized just how many directions my mind is going in until I was on the mat, literally thinking about only breathing. Amazing!

We also got to check out the rest of the facilities. The staff was super friendly showing Caitlin and I around!

IMG_0660

Some of my favorite features (other than the staff and yoga studio) was that there are tvs on the cardio equipment! Now THAT would make running on a treadmill so much nicer!

IMG_0659

I also really liked that the gym is 24 hours! As you can tell from my Marathon Training plan, I like my workouts to work around MY schedule, not the other way around!

You just have to have a little key to come in, but the building is very secure! They even have little necklaces you can wear with a button that calls 911!

IMG_0661

That way, if you are the only one there and something happens to you, just push the button! As a woman, that would make me feel safer working out there!

This gym seems very reasonably priced and is located to next door to Whole Foods! Caitlin and I stopped in to pick up some goodies, including a pumpkin scone which I stole a few nibbles from 😀

IMG_0663

Thanks again to Anytime Fitness for letting us come check out the facilities! 😀

Be sure to check them out on Twitter!

What aspects of a gym are most attractive to you? Cheap memberships? Location? Facilities?

Namaste.
